    Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia Surgery, Beverly Hills Plastic SurgeryGynecomastia Surgery (Male Breast Reduction)

The development of abnormally large male mammary glands or excessive fatty tissue deposits in the male chest area is called gynecomastia. This condition may occur in both breasts or only in one breast, which is described as bilateral or unilateral gynecomastia. Dr. David Kim performs gynecomastia or male breast reduction surgery to restore a masculine pectoral area appearance for men.

Benefits of Male Breast Reduction Surgery

For most men with gynecomastia, a male breast reduction surgery with Dr. David Kim can yield transformative benefits. These may include:

    • Restoration of a more masculine and attractive figure
    • Boost to self-esteem and self-confidence with a flatter chest
    • Opportunity to wear any clothes without feeling self-conscious
    • Ability to participate in all types of physical activities
    • Improvement in posture and prevention of a hunched back
    • Alleviation of pain and discomfort in the back, neck, and shoulders
    • Motivation to maintain a fit body and healthy weight
    • Improved performance in personal as well as professional life

    Liposuction Surgery to Treat Gynecomastia

If Dr. Kim determines that your gynecomastia is primarily resulting from the over-development of fatty tissue in the chest area, he may recommend a less invasive liposuction surgery. Dr. Kim will usually perform tumescent liposuction, which is a less invasive technique requiring only local anesthesia and IV sedation.

Dr. Kim will begin the procedure by creating small incisions in discreet locations on each side your chest. But in some cases, the incisions may be located either in the armpit or around a part of the areola circumference. This will depend on your fat tissue deposits in the pectoral area and your incision preferences.

Through these small incisions, Dr. Kim will introduce lidocaine and saline fluids into the underlying tissue, which makes it easier to dislodge the unwanted fat cells with minimal tissue trauma. He will carefully remove the excess fat, while sculpting a more masculine chest contour that makes you look and feel at your best.

Tissue Excision Surgery to Treat Gynecomastia

When a large amount of glandular tissue is present in the chest, Dr. Kim may recommend the tissue excision technique to perform male breast reduction surgery. Men with this condition may also have loose skin around the breast, which can be tightened with tissue excision. Liposuction may be used additionally to eliminate pockets of fat, but for glandular tissue reduction, the excision technique works best.

Dr. Kim aims to keep the subsequent scarring as discreet as possible in this surgery. Therefore, he will place small incisions precisely within the natural breast creases or make a peri-areolar incision (around the areolar border). Depending on the situation, Dr. Kim may perform a male breast reduction tissue excision surgery under local or general anesthesia.

    Life after Gynecomastia Surgery

Following a male breast reduction surgery, you will experience a dramatic improvement in your chest size and shape. Once the initial bruising and swelling has subsided, the full results will begin to appear. Dr. Kim may recommend you to wear a compression garment for a few weeks to aid in the healing and tissue reshaping process. You can return to work or school in about one week after the surgery. Within six to eight weeks, you should be ready to resume vigorous physical activities, exercises, and sports.
